Welcome! Setting the Expectations
Nice to e-meet you?
Hello!
If you are not my parents, my girlfriend or Aunty Sharon (iykyk), thank you for choosing to have me in your inbox every week.
If you don’t know me personally, nice to (e-)meet you :)
I’ll tell you a little bit about myself: My name is Max. I’m 23 and I love many things: being active, spending time with my friends and family, all aspects of food (cooking, eating, drawing lol), entrepreneurship and finding ways to better myself today for myself tomorrow. I also have one more term of my undergrad in engineering left.
When I tell most people this, they often ask, “So what will you do after you graduate?” Quite frankly, I have no clue.
If you internally said, “Same” in the dreary gen-z voice we all have inside our heads, this newsletter is for you.
I recently heard:
Teachers who are on the same path as you but much farther ahead, often overlook the small details that make a big difference.
One example is when moving to a new place, the people who have lived there for a long time forget to mention little things such as: how to sign up to pay your electricity or how to actually use public transit effectively. The people with the best advice for these things are usually the ones who are in a similar situation to you, except they are just two steps ahead.
This is the premise of this newsletter. Every Tuesday at 8am PST (11am EST) , I’ll send you a letter with things I’ve been thinking about, things I’ve been loving, things which are grinding my gears a little bit and more. How I am personally navigating my life, and the different ways I plan ‘to be successful’. (I’ll definitely have a whole letter on this topic).
Some topics coming in the next few weeks:
New Years Resolutions and why I don’t like them but still do them
The Complexity of Family Time in your 20s
The Year of the Dragon and what it means to me
The Practice of Discipline
+ much more!
Hopefully, some of these insights might just be two steps ahead of where you are in life and they help you out. I would also be overjoyed if you could share things of your own, where you might be two steps ahead of me or other readers, and we can create a great community of people just trying to be that 1% better everyday.
Lastly if you are here reading this from the very beginning, I just want to say thank you. It means the world to me that you would take the time to hear what I have to say. I don’t expect to be the next great philosopher (nor do I want to be), but as long as I can help one person feel like they got just a little bit better - that’s enough for me.
Feel free to email me back a little bit about you, and what you’d like to see with this newsletter.
See you next week,
Max
